"Queen", "Abba" & the "Muppets"

Dear Mum,
This really has to be written and acknowledged somehow as there were many facets to Diane Gray or "Di" which some people knew about and others not. You had a real zest for life and were never shy of trying out or experiencing new things. Your love of music wasn't simply limited to the Classics and when Oliver introduced you to Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody you loved them straight away. We almost managed to get Brian May to come and visit.

Abba took on a close second to your love of popular music and when our Italian neighbours gave me copies of their singles and the greatest hits for Christmas you squirrelled them away for your own enjoyment. "Thank You for The Music" was one of your favourites (the lyrics say it all) as well as "Can you Hear the Drums Fernando" and "Dancing Queen". You eventually made your own collection which you discreetly hid from Dad amongst his peculiar assortment of records with titles such as "Austrian Yodeling Songs", "Rude Rugby Songs" and "Max Boyce on Tour"!

Your all time favourite, which would see you fall about the place in laughter was the Muppets album featuring Gonzo eating a Rubber Tyre to the tune of "Flight of the Bumble Bee", the Chicken Song and Lydia the Tattoo Lady. The latter always reminded you of our wonderfully eccentric Dutch translator friend Lydia who had a speaking voice that could cut through fog and a compendium of english expletives which she used with great gusto! From the Muppets Miss Piggy was the character you identified with most and for years we had a plush heavy bottomed Miss Piggy door stop in the front room which you adored.

You never lost the naughty child inside and even the day before you fell asleep you flashed us that adorable mischievous smile with big blue sparkling eyes that always signalled you were about to get up to no good!

Well Mum we've certainly inherited the gene!

Love Charlie, Olly & Daz x
